Our first round of SUV vs. Wagon pitted the Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen against the Tiguan in a classic matchup that showed how a wagon can have more interior room than a similar SUV, while costing less and getting better fuel economy. Round two sees the lone wagon from Audi faceoff against the popular Q5 SUV.
allroad vs. Q5
Audi equips its wagon and midsize SUV with the same turbocharged four cylinder engine, and in both vehicles it serves up a terrific balance of power and efficiency. Surprisingly, while the SUV is taller and heavier than the wagon, it gets within one mpg of the wagon in the city, and achieves the same 28 mpg on the highway. Combine that with a lower MSRP and greater cargo capacity whether the rear seats are up or folded down, and it’s no wonder that most of our clients choose the Q5. The allroad does have the advantage in handling, however, so buyers looking for a sporty drive should consider the wagon.
